This painting will be entered on a website for artists called Following the Masters. The challange is to paint Robert Henris "Boy with a cap." I chose to paint my Grand Newphew Ryan Carr.

This is my first go at expressionism. I went into my studio one evening, turned on the music and decided to have fun. The figure was drawn using burnt sienna and ultramarine blue. Originally the background included the other arm, however; I decided to it omit it and wiped it back leaving a light image. I will try this again because it was great fun to do.

THIS PAINTING WAS DONE ON THE BEACH AT THE WESTIN HOTEL. THE OBJECT WAS TO CAPTURE THE LIGHT AND SHADOWS COMING FROM THE UMBRELLAS. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME THE CHALLANGE ON THE DIFFERENT STROKES FROM DIFFERENT FOLKS SITE WAS TO PAINT THE LITTLE MAN IN THE CAP WITH EMPHASES ON CORRECT PROPORTIONS. THERE WAS ANOTHER MAN IN THAT SPACE AND I THOUGHT HE LOOKED A BIT CARTOONISH. I WAS DELIGHTED TO FIND THIS MAN INSTEAD; I THINK HE FITS PRETTY GOOD.

My favorite movie was the story of Edith Piaff; Little Sparrow as she was called. This is my version of her. I began by drawing different versions in my sketchbook and finally came up with this.
